I think I have every right to say that I have turned my hobby into a career. I spend every day working on matters surrounding hiking and I travel to Europe’s most beautiful hiking destinations both professionally and personally.
The Allgäu Alps paint an extraordinarily colourful landscape, which reveals a breathtaking backdrop of mighty peaks, picturesque grass-covered mountains and idyllic water landscapes, and is home many fascinating legends.
The Allgäu Alps are home to countless impressive castles, one of which is even invisible. They all have a fascinating story to tell and transform the region into an enchanting castle park. The glassy surfaces of crystal-clear lakes and ponds reflect a multi-faceted, open landscape full of overwhelming views, modelled by the power of melting glaciers. A place for dreamers, visionaries and bon vivants.
Perfection has a name – nature.

The beguiling scenery of the Allgäu Alps already inspired the legendary Bavarian King Ludwig II to epochal deeds. He created a modern wonder of the world here in Neuschwanstein Castle. However, his last great dream, the construction of his ultimate fairytale castle on the Falkenstein, remained unfulfilled – death thwarted his plans. The remains of his vision, the Falkenstein castle ruins, remind us of his daring plans and allow us to follow in his footsteps offering royal panoramic views. The legendary castle of the King of Venice, high up on the Aggenstein, only appears every seven years when its craggy cliffs and peaks turn into a fantastic palace for the chosen few. Another exciting story is that of a medieval father-son rivalry that led to the construction of the Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg Castles on the deathbed of a fossilised giant.
The Allgäu Alps can be hiked in all their splendour along more than 800 kilometres that make up the Allgäu hiking trilogy, which was awarded the Bavarian ADAC Tourism Prize in 2016. On numerous multi-day tours along three sections adapted to the landscape – the Meadow Walker route, Water Runner route and Sky Stormer route – you will cross rivers, climb peaks and explore exciting landscape stories. Deep within a mythical region, visitors get to know its inhabitants, traditions, legends and heroes, who all lend the Allgäu an unmistakable appearance. The European Hiking Village of Pfronten is the perfect starting point for unforgettable excursions, from pleasure hikes to high-alpine climbing tours, into the romantic world of the long-lost world of the Allgäu hiking trilogy.
When we think about having a bite to eat in a cosy mountain hut, most of us probably think of a hearty, rustic, delicious platter of cold cuts, cheeses and bread. However, the Hündeleskopfhütte hut in the midst of the Allgäu mountain world is consciously breaking new ground in mountain-hut cuisine. As the first vegetarian hut in the Alps, it serves only meat-free foods. Even if tradition-conscious hut connoisseurs may feel like frowning at first, a mouthful of the exquisite courgette lasagne, served by the charming hut keeper Silvia, will immediately make them change their mind.
