The lush green meadows of the Allgäu are the epitome of idyll and tradition. This wonderful landscape in southern Germany is also a culinary treasure. Typical Allgäu specialities are prepared with relatively down-to-earth ingredients such as flour, eggs, milk and cheese, of course. Using these as a basis, true works of art are created, including pasta, spaetzle and knöpfle noodles, and maultaschen (Swabian ravioli). “Kasspatzen” – cheese spaetzle noodles – are regularly found gracing the dinner table washed down with a delicious regional beer.
In the Allgäu, many traditional family breweries have survived in pockets. Visitors benefit by being able to choose from a particularly wide range of beers, including light and dark wheat beer variants, both with and without yeast.
