A fragrant sea of flowers, full of life and utterly perfect. Flowering meadows whose scent envelops the little idyllic village of La Val in a delicate touch of spring. A picture so beautiful that only nature could paint it.
Take your time to wander through the knee-high grass for two days, taking in the landscape with all your senses and surrendering yourself to it. At Tru di Pra, you can experience the eternal beauty of nature in all its forms all year round along this mountain meadow trail.
The region around La Val stands out with its fascinating mountain stories and its varied nature and biodiversity. The impressive scenery around the Sass de Putia, Sasso di Santa Croce and Monte Croce mountains is omnipresent, the hay huts of the Prati dell’Armentara meadows convey a historical meadow culture and the varied atmospheric scenery ignite a firework of natural attractions. This landscape is the result of a centuries-old mountain farming culture that determines life with nature.
Peace, nature and tradition – these are the three qualities that best characterise La Val. The mountain pasture village in the middle of the South Tyrolean mythical landscape of the Dolomites was the first European Hiking Village. It embodies the Ladin way of life at its finest: rural hamlets shape the village structure, choirs and music groups promote the heritage of folk music and in craft areas, you can discover high-quality handicraft products. It goes without saying that the tradition and culture of Alta Badia can also be found in the cuisine. Seasons, events and celebrations all have their own specialities. Traditional Ladin dishes consist of simple ingredients prepared with ancient recipes, exclusively based on local products; they are therefore characterised by freshness and purity.
Walk step-by-step into the wondrous world of the Prati dell’Armentara meadows from La Val and let yourself be enchanted by its beauty, as promised by a hike along the Tru di Pra, which is split across two day-long stages with a stop-over in Ritwiesen, leading through the picturesque landscape of the Dolomites. As far as the eye can see, cultivated flowering meadows stretch out in a cultural landscape that was once farmed by current farmers’ ancestors by hand. The higher you go, the more species-rich the meadows.

Sparing ingredients are enough to create delicious dishes that can still be found on every menu today. Just think of barley soup, turtres (spinach and ricotta turnovers), Schlutzkrapfen (stuffed pasta) and strudel. The simplest “Cëna ladina” products have developed into internationally renowned specialities and they send you on a journey of unforgettable taste sensations with a great deal of elegance, finesse and flavours found in Italian cuisine.
